CPS Energy / HVAC replacements

Know your match. Then know your options.

Check My Eligibility ↗

CPS Energy lists per-cooling-ton rebates for qualifying central A/C, heat pumps and ductless mini-splits installed February 1, 2026–January 31, 2027. The exact AHRI-certified match must meet system-specific SEER2, EER2 and (for heat pumps) HSPF2 minimums. CPS determines tonnage using its conversion chart; a nominal “4-ton” label alone does not establish your payout.

CPS Energy HVAC rebate tiers, dollars per CPS-determined cooling ton
AHRI SEER2 tierEarly replacement (working unit)Replace on burnout
13.8–15.1$115 / ton$90 / ton
15.2–16.1$130 / ton$120 / ton
16.2–17.0$175 / ton$150 / ton
17.1–19.9$250 / ton$225 / ton
20.0+$310 / ton$275 / ton

Early replacement requires an operational existing unit younger than 25 years for central systems or 20 years for heat pumps, plus photos and existing model/serial numbers. Missing evidence or a failed unit is processed as replace on burnout. Confirm the utility account, one-for-one retrofit, AHRI match, funding, and program rules before quoting.

Illustration only — not a guaranteed rebate

If CPS determines a qualifying 18-SEER2 installation to be 4 cooling tons, the 17.1–19.9 tier would calculate as 4 × $250 = $1,000 for documented early replacement of a working unit, or 4 × $225 = $900 for replace on burnout. Actual AHRI rating, CPS tonnage and approval control.

Contractor application checklist

  • Exact AHRI certificate or certificate number matching condenser, coil and furnace/air handler; verify efficiency and capacity.
  • Licensed Texas contractor’s dated, itemized invoice with installation address, cost, installation date, and new indoor/outdoor model and serial numbers.
  • Existing equipment photos, model/serial numbers and age for early replacement; San Antonio permit number when applicable.
  • Signed application and supporting documents submitted to CPS Energy within 30 days of installation. Submission does not guarantee approval.

A few things to know.

How much does a replacement system cost?

Every home and installation is different. System pricing varies by equipment size, model, and installation requirements. Contact StayCool for a personalized estimate.

How do I find current savings?

Tell us about your planned upgrade. We’ll check current manufacturer and utility programs against the proposed equipment before preparing an estimate.

Can manufacturer and utility rebates combine?

Only if each program permits it and your installation meets each set of requirements. Confirm amounts, funding, documentation, and approval separately.

02 / Attic insulation

More comfort starts at the top.

CPS Energy lists rebates for qualifying attic insulation between air-conditioned living space and an unconditioned attic. The amount depends on eligible square footage and installation method, not a blanket rebate for every home.

CPS Energy / Home Energy Rebates

Check the attic before planning savings.

For the February 1, 2026–January 31, 2027 program, CPS lists $0.35/sq. ft. contractor-installed or $0.25/sq. ft. self-installed for qualifying attic insulation. Applications must be received within 30 days of installation; program funding and approval govern.

For attics with more than 24 inches of clearance, existing insulation must be no greater than R-14 and final insulation at least R-38. Different limits apply to lower-clearance attics.

Illustration only — not guaranteed

2,000 eligible sq. ft. × $0.35 contractor rate = $700, subject to verified area, R-values, application and approval.

  • Existing and final R-value and attic clearance must meet CPS criteria; new materials and eligible conditioned living space are required.
  • Keep the dated, itemized invoice with insulation type, R-values and area. Photos may be needed for self-installed work or very low existing insulation.
  • Confirm the current application deadline, funding, account eligibility and all official terms before installation. Submission is not approval.
